We offer a free Dutch language and culture program to help you feel confident and prepared. This 4-month training takes place at our OTTO Health Care Academy in the Netherlands, so you will already be immersed in your new environment from day one.

Your job

As an Nurse in Training, you will specialize in providing advanced nursing care for critically ill patients requiring continuous monitoring and life support. You will gain expertise under close supervision while completing the specialized training program in a Dutch hospital setting. 

What do we ask from you?
Required
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. (4 years study) 
  • You have at least 2 years of experience in a hospital, within a specialized department. 
  • International experience or prior work abroad is considered an advantage. 
  • You have good English proficiency (minimum B1 level).
  • Strong motivation to learn Dutch (B2 level or higher needed to be achieved). 
  • You are professional, independent, and committed to continuously upgrading your skills and knowledge within your profession. 
  • You always prioritize patient care and strive to deliver the highest quality nursing care. 
  • You are assertive and not afraid to ask questions. 
  • Willing to work and live in the Netherlands long-term (minimum of 5 years).

Salary
  • Before BIG Registration (approx. 4-6 months) Work as a nurse under supervision to obtain your BIG registration. 
    • Salary (CAO scale 40), €2.696 – €3.882 gross/month.  
  • Registered nurse (3–6 months) After BIG registration, complete preparatory work  
    • Salary (CAO scale 45): €3.164 – €4.261 gross/month.
  • Specialized study program (15-18 months) Combine theoretical learning with hands-on experience in your specialized department.
    • Still on (CAO scale 45): €3.164 – €4.261 gross/month. 
  • Specialized Nurse (After Completion of study and training) Work as a fully specialized nurse. 
    • Salary (CAO scales 50–55): €3.395 – €5.395 gross/month (depending on specialization). 
* The amount based on the February 2026 CAO: This may change with future CAO updates. 

Working Hours & Shifts 
Shifts: Early, late, and night (varies by organisation, see the shift sample below). 
  • Early: approx. 07:00–15:30/16:00 
  • Late: approx. 13:30–23:30 (split shifts possible) 
  • Night: schedule varies by department 

Additional benefits
  • Irregularity allowance: 25 – 60% extra for night/weekend shifts (calculated by each institution; how they count irregular hours or extra hours may vary) 
  • End-of-year bonus: 8.33% of annual salary 
  • Holiday allowance: 8.33% of annual salary 
  • Transport allowance: €0.21 per km from CAO February 2026 
  • Vacation: 28 days/year for full-time employees (36 hours/week)
